Students are given projects during final year. It includes studies on modification in existing process, trouble shooting, design and fabrication of equipments etc. The detail of some of the outstanding projects carried out by the students of mechanical engineering in recent past is as under.

1. CELL PHONE OPERATED ROBOT
 

This type of robot is operated with the help of mobile phone. Here, the dial tone of mobile phone is decoded by Dial Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF) decoder and signal is sent to microprocessor to actuate the actuators. As this robot is operated by mobile, it is connected to large coverage area of mobile service provider. Due to this reason, it overcomes the disadvantages of traditional wireless robots, such as limited working range and limited control.

2. SOLAR ELECTRICAL VEHICLE

This is a two seater vehicle which runs on electric battery. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour and payload of 140 kg. This is equipped with disc brakes. It is powered by DC motor and also has provision of padding as a alternative, which is common feature of any Bicyle rickshaw. The roof is made of the size which can accommodate solar panel for charging the batteries.  

 
3. FABRICATION AND SETUP OF REYNOLDS’S EXPERIMENT 
 

The project was made with an aim to develop laboratory experimental setup to calculate Reynolds; number. It is used to calculate the Reynolds’ number, to predict the type of flow (Laminar or Turbulent). The experimental setup is presently used in laboratory to perform the experiment by the students.

WORKING MODEL OF AUTOMATIC TOOL CHANGER 

 

This is a working model of Automatic tool changer used in CNC machines. It has tool turret of six tools driven by PMDC worm geared motor. It can be operated very easily in manual mode and can be interfaced with digital computer for programming and automation as per process need. This model serves good for demonstration of working of ATC (Automatic Tool Changer).

 
5. ELECTROMAGNETIC BRAKE
 

An electromagnetic brake can replace conventional hydraulic brake system used in various applications. Electromagnetic brake mainly works on the basis of the principle of electromagnetism. In this project an electromagnetic force is generated by winding (electromagnetic coil) in the replacement of conventional actuator. This coil is fitted between two braking shoe. This coils are made such that means of AC winding of copper wire is done such that on the power supply they generate electromagnetic force of same polarity .Because of same polarity they will repeal each other and transmit this repulsion force on the braking shoe and brake is applied. For actuation of brake AC supply is given with current regulation so that coil works as an electromagnet and we can control electromagnetic force by current regulator.
