Centre for Quality Assurance and Academic Development (CQAAD)


Nirma University recognises the significance of academic quality assurance to work towards the realisation of quality enhancement and sustenance in higher education. To channelise all efforts and measures of the University towards promoting its holistic academic excellence, Centre for Quality Assurance and Academic Development – CQAAD (formerly known as the Academic Development & Research Cell – ADR Cell) has been established. The prime task of the CQAAD is to facilitate and participate in the development of a system for conscious and consistent improvement in the academic and administrative performance of the University.


The Centre facilitates the constituent institutes to ensure the sustenance of the best academic practices; suggests innovative practices; takes initiatives to remove deficiencies and enhance academic and administrative quality; promotes the finest learning–teaching ambience and prepares the institutes for accreditation. For the growth and professional development of the University faculty, the CQAAD organises induction and orientation programmes, refresher courses, workshops, seminars, inspirational talks. It also plans and executes the professional development programmes for the administrative staff of the University.

Adding to it, the CQAAD undertakes department, institute and university level academic audit to facilitate the efforts of the constituent institutes of the University in leveraging the academic and research standards, conformity to strategic planning and overseeing extension activities for social benefits, etc.

Faculty Development Programmes

The CQAAD organises faculty development programmes for their professional development and to orient them to become potential partners in University building. The objectives of the faculty development programmes are to highlight the following:
• innovations for effective classroom teaching and pedagogy;
• use of ICT tools for teaching, learning and academic administration;
• methods of evaluation and assessment of diversified groups of students;
• effective student-counselling and mentoring;
• generate learning materials for enrichment of teaching.
The CQAAD encourages the participation of faculty members from within University as well as various Institutes/University nationwide for all the faculty development programmes.

The faculty development programmes are mainly organised in three categories. The Faculty Induction Training Programme of four weeks is organised for the newly recruited faculty members. The Faculty Orientation Programme of two weeks is organized for the faculty members having completed two years of appointment at Nirma University. The Refresher Courses/STTPs/Faculty Development Programmes are organised by the constituent institutes under the auspices of the CQAAD of two weeks for the faculty members for refreshing their domain knowledge.
Apart from the above, the CQAAD also organises workshops, seminars, expert lectures, inspirational talks, etc on regular basis.

Administrative Staff Development Programme

The objectives of the administrative staff development programmes are to impart essential professional skills, competencies and office attitudes to the non-teaching staff of the University.
The administrative staff development programmes are broadly organised in three categories. The training programme of one week is organised for the laboratory assistants, the laboratory supervisors and the computer operators. The training programme of two weeks is arranged for the office assistants and the staff of equivalent cadre. The training programme of two weeks is organized for the Assistant Registrar/Office Superintendent and Equivalent cadre staff.

Academic Audit

To further strengthen the processes and procedures for academic quality assurance and enhancement, the CQAAD plans and conducts various levels of Academic Audit at the constituent institutes of the University from time-to-time.

The objectives of the Academic Audit are to ensure quality of teaching and administration; to identify strength and areas of improvement of faculty member, department and Institute.

The Academic Audit is carried out at three levels, namely the Audit at the individual level (Peer Faculty Classroom Observation), the Audit at the department level and the Audit at the university level / Audit by external experts.

Accreditation and Rankings

The University has always been a quality-savvy, be it the domain of learning – teaching or the research. To maintain standards at par with any prominent national and international University, the University and its constituent institutes strongly believe in the introspections and validation by external agency. In the short span of 15 years, the Nirma University has been accreditated for the two cycles of NAAC accreditations. In the second cycle of NAAC accreditation, the University is awarded ‘A’ grade. Not only NAAC, the National Institutional Ranking Framework, instituted by the MHRD, Government of India has ranked the University and its constituent institutes in the top rank bands. The NIRF has ranked the University at the rank of 94 and Institute of Pharmacy at Rank of 18 in recently declared results of NIRF 2018. Many leading ranking agencies and surveys have ranked the Nirma University and the institutions among the top private universities across the nation and the most leading in the state of the Gujarat.

Administrative Staff Awards and Incentives

The University has a rich tradition of recognising the performance and achievements of the outstanding administrative staff and the various administrative sections of the University through awards and incentives.
Every year, Nirma University recognises the administrative staff excellence through several awards and incentives as nominated by the departments, areas, section and selected by various award committees.
The process of inviting applications and giving the awards and incentive is coordinated by the CQAAD.

Adoption and Dissemination of the Best Administrative Practices

Modern universities operate in a highly competitive and volatile environment. Therefore, it is imperative for the University to focus on monitoring, adopting and disseminating the best administrative practices to cope with the latest trends.

Keeping in mind the vision and mission of Nirma University, the local and global concerns, nature of learners, competencies of staff, infrastructure facilities and governance requirements, the CQAAD works in close coordination with the University management, Heads of the constituent institutes of the University and academic experts to identify and implement best administrative practices for achieving a holistic academic excellence.


The CQAAD functions under the leadership of a Director and Deputy Director for the smooth functioning of the Centre. The Centre works in close coordination with the University management, Heads of the constituent institutes of the University, Institute level IQAC coordinators, senior faculty members and academic experts to meet its obligations and responsibilities of planning, guiding and monitoring quality enhancement and quality sustenance activities of the University.

Dr Urmil Dave
Deputy Director
Dr Urmil Dave is presently working as a Professor with the Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University. Dr Dave is serving as the Deputy Director of CQAAD. Prof Dave has received BE degree in Civil Engineering and ME degree in Structural Engineering. He has received PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Prof Dave has a vast experience of teaching at the Undergraduate as well as at the post graduate levels. He has several research projects and publications to his credit. He has been invited by reputed industries and academic organisations for giving expert talks in various programmes. Prof Dave has been awarded for ‘Highly Commendable Paper’ at the conference by C I Premier at Washington DC, USA in 2007. He was also felicitated by Indian Society for Technical Education for guiding the Best MTech Thesis in Civil Engineering (I Prize) in 2010.

Dr Sachin Gajjar
Prof Sachin Gajjar received BE degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1999, MTech degree in Electrical Engineering (Computer Technology) in 2007 from IIT Delhi and PhD from Nirma University in 2016. Currently, he is serving as Associate Professor with the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at Institute of Technology, Nirma University. His areas of interest include Internet of Things, Wireless Sensor Networks, Embedded Systems, Computer Networks, Computer Programming, Embedded Operating Systems.
