Nirma University inaugurates the ‘Start-up & Innovation Centre’ under the Student Start-up & Innovation Policy (SSIP) of the Government of Gujarat (GoG) on December 20, 2020. The Education Ministry of the GoG will allot the university centre a grant of INR 30 Lakhs under the SSIP for the next two years. The university plans to establish an on-campus ‘Start-up & Innovation Centre’ with this grant and provide assistance to the creative ideas and projects that would be instrumental in the economic growth of the state and the nation as a whole.
The Hon’ble Education Minister of GoG Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama; Smt Vibhavariben Dave, Minister of State, Primary & Higher Education, GoG; Ms Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary (Education), GoG; Shri M Nagarajan, Director, Higher Education, Gujarat; Mr Hiranmay Mahanta, CEO-iHub; Shri KK Patel, Vice President, Nirma University; Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Nirma University; Shri GR Nair, Executive Registrar, Nirma University and Dr Mehul R Naik, Head Centre for Entrepreneurship, Nirma University attended the online inauguration.
The SSIP aims to create an integrated, state-wide, university-based innovation ecosystem to support innovation and ideas of talented young students and provide them with a conducive environment for the optimum harnessing of their creative pursuit. The assistance under this policy is not restricted to the students of Nirma University alone and operates on Open Collaboration, where anyone with an idea and come and approach the Centre.
Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama congratulated Nirma University on the inauguration of the Centre. He said that the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat has always been there in Indians, but is untapped. With the activities of the Centre, he hopes that the students come up with innovative ideas that would be beneficial for economic growth. He further adds that he expects a lot from the university and wants to see more patented ideas coming from the recipients of the grant.
Shri KK Patel ensured that Nirma University will try its best to implement the SSIP policy fulfil the aim of SSIP and would provide a platform for the budding entrepreneurs to pursue their ideas and the necessary infrastructure requirements.
