The Fourteenth Convocation of Nirma University was held at the University campus on November 26, 2012. The Chief Guest for the function was Prof Goverdhan Mehta (FNA, FRS) National Research Professor & Eli Lilly-Jubilant Chair, University of Hyderabad. In his address, he praised the diversity of the University’s academic offerings and noted the good visibility and placements of the institutions. He motivated the students to use our national strengths of demography, democracy and diversity to rise up in the 21st century. He challenged them to dream big, tread where there is no path and leave behind a trail. He encouraged them to prepare for the new paradigms of learning and remain life-long learners of knowledge and skills. Finally, he invited them to network and collaborate in order to innovate and raise the importance of our universities and educational institutions so that they can uphold, enhance and deploy their scholarship, values and service to the nation and to humanity at large.
Dr Karsanbhai K Patel, the President of the University conferred degrees to the students. The concluding address was by the Director General (I/c) Shri Ambubhai M Patel, who exhorted the students to mould excellence in academics with courteous behaviour in life. He also painted a praise-worthy picture of the university by mentioning the latest achievements of the university, the spectacular ones being 241 Research Scholars till date, Completed Research Projects worth 3.24 crores, several national awards, a large number of papers published in international journals and presented in international conferences, an impressive number of books published by the faculty, collaboration with foreign universities and an excellent placement record.
The scholars who were awarded the degrees consisted of 6 for PhD: from Pharmacy (4), Technology & Engineering (1) and Science (1), 239 for Master’s Degree in Technology & Engineering, 61 for Master’s Degree in Computer Applications, 646 for Bachelor’s Degree in Technology & Engineering, 60 for Bachelor’s degree in Technology & Engineering (Part-time), 5 for Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications, 286 for Diploma in Engineering, 50 for Master’s Degree and 67 for Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and 60 for Master’s Degree in Science. Besides these, 92 scholars received medals in the three categories of Overall Scholastic, Programme-wise Scholastic and Programme-wise Best Student.
