Nirma University emerges as the Micro Class Winners at SAE India Southern Section Aero Design Challenge 2019. SAE India Southern Section Aero Design Challenge 2019 is the biggest Unmanned Aerial Vehicle competition in the nation. This year the event was held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai from July 19-21, 2019. The competition had two categories – Micro Class and Regular Class.
This year witnessed a total of 144 teams from various Institutions/Universities of India registered for the event in both the categories. In Micro Class, Nirma University was the only team from Gujarat.
The task in Micro Class was to design and fabricate an unmanned aerial vehicle that should be able to carry high payload fraction and provide a stable flight. A total of 63 teams including NIT Trichi, IIT Patna, BITS, VIT, and SRM University competed in this category.
Team Arrow of Nirma University won the ‘1st position for Overall Performance’ and the ‘1st position for Best Technical Presentation’. The team was awarded a cash prize of over one lakh rupees for its winning performance.Team Arrow developed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle weighing 1.2 kg, capable of flying for 10 minutes within a range of 1 km and at a speed up to 60kmph.
